Employment Supports

Ontario Works helps you get ready for working by supporting you as you take steps to find and keep lasting work.

There are many ways Ontario Works supports you. Referrals to basic education, training for new and updated skills, and job placements are a few activities available to help people get ready for work.

Employment Support means education, training and job search resources.

We also provide access to employment counseling and workshops covering topics like:

  • Cover letters
  • Resume Building
  • Job Search Strategies
  • Job Interview Skills
  • Financial Management
  • Dressing for Success
  • Goal Setting

Community Placement is unpaid work experience that gives you helpful contacts with community organizations, helps you learn new skills, and gain self-confidence.

You may find your own placement, like volunteer work that you are already doing. You may also be referred to a Community Placement arranged by Ontario Works staff.

Placements usually last up to six months. If there are longer training opportunities, they may last longer than six months.

You will not be asked to volunteer more than 70 hours per month.

Employment Placement is for people who are ready to find and keep work.

You will be referred to an Employment Resource Centre to work with someone there. If you are job ready and have an up-to-date resume, ask your Case Manager today about Employment Placement.
