Busy Fall for Johnstown port

The Port of Johnstown will be abuzz with activity during the next several months as 12 ships arrive carrying turbine components for a wind energy project.

Pat Sayeau, mayor of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Township, which owns the port, called the cargo “a very big deal.”

The new business means the port’s four-year-old, multi-million-dollar investment in infrastructure is paying off, he said. In 2016, the port expanded its laydown space by several acres, allowing it to accommodate such heavy-lift cargo as used by the Nation Rise Wind Farm project.

The first vessel, the BBC Kurt Paul, arrived in mid-August with the components for the wind project and it will be followed by 11 more during the next 10 to 12 months.
