G. Tackaberry and Family Long-Term Care Home Welcomes First Residents

ATHENS, ON – The G. Tackaberry and Family Home officially welcomed its first residents yesterday, marking a significant milestone in long-term care services in Leeds and Grenville.

Warden Corinna Smith-Gatcke, Mayor of Athens, Herb Scott, and Mr. George Tackaberry were on the red carpet to welcome residents as they entered the doors to their new home for the first time.

All 60 residents who were residing at Maple View Lodge have now successfully transitioned into the new, state-of-the-art long-term care home. Designed to meet the evolving needs of residents, the new Home offers modern accommodations, enhanced safety features, and innovative spaces that support quality care, comfort, and meaningful daily living.

The residents’ move was carefully coordinated to ensure a safe and seamless transition for residents. Staff, families, volunteers, and a professional healthcare relocation team worked together to support residents every step of the way, helping them settle comfortably into their new home.

Leading up to resident occupancy, Counties staff worked diligently with the Ministry of Long-Term Care and project contractors to ensure the building was fully prepared to welcome residents. The Counties extend their sincere appreciation to the Ministry and all contractors whose dedication, expertise, and collaboration throughout the project helped make the successful move-in day possible.

Beginning tomorrow, August 27, the Home will start welcoming new residents, further expanding long-term care capacity in the region.

The brand-new building features thoughtfully designed living spaces and amenities that will support residents' long-term care needs while enhancing opportunities for daily activities, recreation, and social connection.

A special celebration for residents is being planned for this fall, once the Home is fully occupied and residents and staff have had time to settle comfortably into their new surroundings. The event will provide an opportunity to recognize this important milestone and celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for residents, families, staff, and the community.
