Permit & Applications
Understanding Consent Applications in Our Municipality
Do I Need a Land Severance?
If you want to divide a piece of property, adjust a property boundary, or grant a permanent right-of-way, you need to apply for a land severance (officially called a Consent application). This legal process ensures your project aligns with the local Official Plan, zoning bylaws, and provincial planning policies.
Review the common situations below to see if a severance application is the right next step for your project:
- Selling a portion of your land: Split a large rural lot to sell a vacant residential building lot.
- Building a home for family: Sever a piece of a farm or property so a relative can build nearby.
- Planning your estate: Divide large assets into distinct parcels to pass down to multiple heirs.
- Selling a surplus farmhouse: Keep expanded cropland while severing and selling an existing dwelling.
- Expanding a business: Split a commercial lot to build secondary spaces or sell to a new business.
- Adjusting property lines: Legally move a boundary line to change lot sizes or fix an encroachment.
- Creating a right-of-way: Formally grant a neighbor or utility company legal access across your land.
Planning an Event on County Roads or Trails
Do I Need a Special Events Permit?
If you are hosting a community festival, race, or gathering that takes place on or beside a county road, or within the Limerick Forest, you must secure a permit before releasing your event details. This legal process ensures public safety and prevents traffic conflicts.
Review the common situations below to see if a special events permit is the right next step for your project:
- Closing a full road: Close an entire roadway safely by establishing a designated detour route.
- Closing a single lane: Shut down one lane of traffic using a formal traffic control plan.
- Hosting a race, walk, or rally: Use the roadway for a marathon or community walk without altering traffic flow.
- Using the roadside allowance: Set up an event in the space between the road surface and the adjacent property line.
- Organizing a trail event: Host a public or group gathering on the designated Limerick Forest trails.
Important Details Before You Apply
- Timeline: Submit your application at least four (4) weeks prior to your event start date.
- Cost: Free ($0) for community events and non-profit fundraisers. Private organizations are subject to a $150.00 fee.
- Paperwork: You will need a local township endorsement letter, a $5,000,000 liability insurance certificate, and a route map or site plan.
Installing or Altering an Access Way on a County Road
Do I Need an Entrance Permit?
If you’re planning to build a new driveway, widen an existing entrance, or install a culvert on a United Counties road allowance, you need an entrance permit before construction begins. This quick check ensures your access point has safe sightlines and keeps roadside drainage flowing properly.
Select your project type below to get started:
- Building a new driveway: Create a brand new residential, agricultural, or commercial entrance onto a county road.
- Modifying an existing entrance: Pave, widen, resurface, or relocate your current driveway.
- Installing a temporary entrance: Set up a short-term access point for construction vehicles or logging equipment.
- Adding or replacing a culvert: Extend, change, or install a roadside pipe to manage ditch drainage.
Before You Apply
- Fees: A $250.00 fee is collected at the time of your Road Occupancy and Access Permit.
- Zoning Check: Your proposed entrance must comply with your local township's property line setbacks and bylaws.
- Site Plan: Ready a basic drawing showing your property lines, nearest intersecting public road, and where you want the entrance.
