June Update on the G. Tackaberry and Family Long-Term Care Home in Athens

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is providing a new update on the G. Tackaberry and Family Long-Term Care Home in Athens.

The home has now successfully passed S1001 certification testing. This national standard confirms that all fire and safety systems are properly connected and working as designed. This step is critical to ensure the safety of future residents and staff.

With this testing complete, the home has now received its full unconditional occupancy permit.

The next step is working closely with the Ministry of Long-Term Care to complete the final approval process. This includes both virtual and in-person inspections. These reviews are required before residents can move into the home. Although the virtual inspection is tentatively scheduled for next week, these inspections are very extensive and may identify items that require correction or updates, which can add time to the process.

All of these steps are in place to make sure residents receive the highest level of care in a safe and fully prepared environment. Staff continue to work with contractors and Ministry officials to complete all remaining requirements, while staff training and preparation activities are also taking place daily to ensure the home is ready to safely welcome residents as soon as possible.

The Counties remain fully committed to opening the G. Tackaberry and Family Long-Term Care Home as soon as all approvals are in place.
