New federal funding will grow the reach of a national Sarnia-based not-for-profit aimed at helping companies develop new bio-based technologies, allowing it to open a new facility in the Brockville area. Economic Development Minister Mélanie Joly was to announce Thursday in Sarnia that Bioindustrial Innovation Canada (BIC) will receive $15 million to expand into the Brockville area, helping foster the still-fledgling bio sector in Canada.
Edwardsburgh/Cardinal is putting the final touches on its application to become the potential site of a new auto plant. Mayor Pat Sayeau said his township will have its submission ready before the March 31 deadline of a provincial government competition that asks municipalities to nominate land suitable for a new factory.

Ontario is launching a provincewide Job Site Challenge to identify shovel-ready mega sites where automakers or other advanced manufacturers could invest in Ontario by building a large plant, creating thousands of good-paying direct and supply-chain jobs.Proposals will be accepted between January 1 and March 31, 2020.

Business owners are upbeat about the future of Leeds and Grenville with 40 per cent saying they would be expanding during the next 18 months. Those expansion plans are forecast to create 349 new jobs and increase commercial and industrial floor space by 139,390 square feet, according to a Business Expansion and Retention study of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.
A second cannabis company is setting up shop in North Grenville. Era Cannabis plans on building a 10,000 square foot facility on Townline Road in Kemptville.
