Maple View Landings: Athens, Ontario Complex
Welcome to the Maple View Landings Long-Term Care Complex in Athens, Ontario!
The Landings consists of the current United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Long-Term Care Home, Maple View Lodge, and is the site of the future G. Tackaberry and Family Home; a brand new 192 bed long-term care facility, currently under construction opening in the summer of 2025.
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville has a deep history of ensuring members of its communities are cared for. Maple View Lodge’s beginnings were first formed in 1926 when the Leeds and Grenville County Home for the Aged was created. This home operated with 41 beds. The home was formally named Maple View Lodge Home for the Aged in 1972.
The facility grew again in 2004 when Maple View Lodge celebrated its grand reopening expanding from 41 beds to the current 64 beds.
As the need for long-term care continues to rise with our aging population, Counties Council looked to the future to find solutions to meet this need while continuing to ensure high quality of care is provided. After extensive research, studies, debate and engagement, the decision to build a new 192 long-term care facility on the same site as the existing Maple View Lodge was made.
The new facility is the largest capital construction project in the history of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. The new facility, named the G. Tackaberry and Family Home, will provide six ‘neighbourhoods’ where residents will be welcomed in a safe and secure home with dedicated and skilled staff providing excellence in care.
In the fall of 2024, Counties Council will be exploring options for future uses opportunities of the existing Maple View Lodge facility, after the building is vacated in the fall of 2025. Options being considered are:
- to convert the existing building to a retirement residence owned by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, with operations provided by a third party;
- convert the existing building into a Counties-owned mixed-use facility that would include residential space for independent living units and for staff of the new facility on a short-term basis; and
- a commercial component that would also include office space for health professionals; or divestiture.
Updates on the future use of the existing building will be provided as information becomes available.
