Counties Council Highlights - September 2026

Here are the highlights from the September 24, 2026, meeting of Counties Council.

Warden's Remarks

At the beginning of the meeting, the Warden shared updates on two important milestones for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.

• G. Tackaberry and Family Home Update
  The Warden announced that the G. Tackaberry and Family Home has successfully welcomed additional residents beyond those who moved from Maple View Lodge in August. The Home is now home to 121 residents and remains on track to reach full occupancy in the coming months. The Warden thanked staff for their dedication and hard work in ensuring residents experienced a smooth transition and felt comfortable and welcomed in their new home.

• Physician Recruitment Success
  The Warden recognized the efforts of the Economic Development team and community partners in recruiting four new primary care physicians to Leeds and Grenville through a joint recruitment initiative with Brockville, Prescott, and Gananoque. The Warden noted that increasing access to healthcare remains a key priority and thanked everyone involved for their commitment to strengthening healthcare services across the region.

Council Update

Council welcomed Joe Aragona, Acting Mayor of the Village of Westport, who took the Oath of Office during the meeting. Mr. Aragona has been acclaimed in the upcoming municipal election and will serve as Westport's representative on Counties Council during the next term.

Community Housing & Property Management

Council approved contracts for annual snow removal services at Community Housing properties across Leeds and Grenville.

• Snow plowing services were awarded for properties in Brockville, Mallorytown, Lansdowne, Spencerville, Kemptville, Prescott, and Cardinal.

These contracts help ensure residents of Community Housing properties have safe and reliable access to their homes throughout the winter season.

Transportation & Road Safety

Council approved amendments to the Counties' Off-Road Vehicle By-law.

The changes update the list of Counties roads where all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), multi-purpose off-road utility vehicles, and recreational off-road vehicles are permitted to operate. The amendments help ensure the by-law remains current and reflects local transportation and recreational needs while maintaining public safety.
