Water and Sewer
Groundwater is the major source of potable water for residents. Of the population of 100,546, approximately 67 percent of the residents are serviced by groundwater. Ninety-two percent of these residents are supplied from non-municipal private systems and the Ministry of the Environment's records indicate there are approximately 21,000 water wells in the United Counties.
In the separated municipalities of Brockville, Gananoque and Prescott, both municipal piped water and waste water treatment plants serve residents. Brockville's water supply comes from the St. Lawrence River. The City's single filtration plant filtrates, chlorinates and fluoridates the water before it is delivered to businesses and residents in the City. Sewage in the city is treated by a single pollution control centre.
