Point in Time Count and ByName List
Point in Time Count
A Point-in-Time Count is a one-day snapshot of homelessness that provides a community-wide understanding of local homelessness, while identifying service needs and informing plans to prevent and reduce homelessness.
Homelessness in Leeds and Grenville is often not apparent; families and individuals may be living in unstable housing situations, such as staying temporarily with friends, or couch surfing. In order to address this, there were a number of targeted activities planned to fully engage with our local homeless population which included street canvassing and magnet events.
The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville conducted their Point in Time Count during the week of September 21st, 2021. An estimated 193 people were homeless in Leeds and Grenville on the day of the count. To learn more, please see the final report.

ByName List
A ByName List is a real-time list of people experiencing homelessness in our community. It includes a robust set of data points that support coordinated access and prioritization at a household level, and an understanding of homeless inflow and outflow at a system level. This real-time actionable data supports triage to services, system performance evaluation, and advocacy.
What is a ByName List used for?
Community Level (non-identifying information)
- Track how many people are becoming homeless, moving into housing and changes in real-time.
- Measures progress toward goal of homelessness reduction
- Collects concrete evidence for the services we need more of to best meet community needs
Individual level (confidential identifiable information)
- Share client information between service providers to reduce duplication of work, avoid individuals re-answering the same questions multiple times
- Prioritize clients based on vulnerability and need
