Doug Struthers, Chair - Merrickville
Mr. Struthers is the Chair of the Maple View Landings Redevelopment Project’s Fundraising Committee. He is a strong community leader, having served as Mayor for the Village of Merrickville-Wolford (2000-2014; 2018-2022) and Councillor from 1994-2000. He was the Warden for the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville during 2005 and Chair of the Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus in 2007. He is credited as an advocate for health & promotion and the regional economy. He is an experienced facilitator, founder of a media analysis company and international spokesperson.
Shelley Bacon, Vice-Chair - Northern Cables
Mr. Bacon is the CEO of the Brockville-based manufacturing company, Northern Cables. Recipient of the 2021 Award of Excellence Business Person of the Year, he is currently Chair of the St. Lawrence Corridor Economic Development Commission, a member of Professional Engineers Ontario, and a director for the Lanark Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health of Eastern Ontario. He is also involved with the Rideau St. Lawrence Science Fair as a director.
Arie Hoogenboom - Rideau Lakes
Mr. Hoogenboom has built a career in municipal administration and political positions. He served as Special Projects Coordinator and later Clerk/Coordinator in the Town of Prescott, where he spent 14 years. He was the Town of Smith Falls’ first Chief Administrative Officer after which time he served at City Manager in Dryden, Ontario until retirement. Arie relocated to Leeds and Grenville and was elected as a Councillor for the South Elmsley Ward of the Rideau Lakes Township serving for several years until running for and being elected as Mayor. He brings an excellent perspective on both the staff and elected side of municipal administration to Counties Council discussions.
Herb Scott - Athens
Mr. Scott, a community icon and currently serving as the Mayor for the Township of Athens, has been part of the family’s farm business since 1941, building upon the operation started by his grandfather in the late 1800s. In 1947, the family moved their operation to Athens where Herb and his brother acquired three adjoining farms totalling 1200 acres. With 60 head of milkers, they maintained a herd of 200-300 animals for sale and cultivated around 500 acres of cash crops. The business now focusses on cash crop only. Herb has run in every municipal election since 1984 and has served continuously for all but one year. He has been acclaimed in all but three campaigns during this time. Mr. Scott has served on Counties Council since 1994 and was Warden for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville in 2004. He is currently Chair of the Maple View Lodge Committee of Management.
Ron Holman - Rideau Lakes
Former Warden of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and former Mayor of the Township of Rideau Lakes, Mr. Holman currently is the Vice Chair of the Housing Services Corporation. He previously served as Chair of the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) and has been active in local politics for more than 30 years. A resident of Rideau Ferry, Ron has held and continues to hold various board and committee positions with a focus on long-term care and social housing.
Roger Haley - Front of Yonge
Mr. Haley is the Mayor of Front of Yonge Township and served as Warden for the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville in 2021 and 2022. He began his working life as an Apprentice Electrician and then attended St. Lawrence College’s Registered Practical Nurse program while working at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital. Pursuing his interest in labour relations, he was hired by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) in 1989 as a staff representative. He later became a contract negotiator of collective agreements for various locals. The remainder of his 30 years with OPSEU involved arranging early retirements or transfers for members displaced through hospital closures. Mr. Haley is currently Chair of the Lanark Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health of Eastern Ontario.
Kevin Tackaberry - Tackaberry Construction
Mr. Tackaberry was born and raised in the Village of Athens. He works in the family business of G. Tackaberry & Sons - major contributors to many community initiatives, both financially and through in-kind support. He also serves as the Co-Vice Chair of the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation.
