The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville has contracted Clarence McDonald Excavation Ltd. to replace a concrete box culvert at civic address 3209 on County Road 2 in Johnstown, ON.

Start Date: September 30, 2024

Details: Cross culvert replacement with single lane closures to occur during the month of October, 2024.
Traffic signals will be utilized with clearly marked signage to ensure smooth traffic management and public safety during lane restrictions.

County Road 7 Road Construction - Spring/Summer 2025

This year, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and Tackaberry Construction will be rehabilitating approximately 7.5 kilometres of County Road 7 between County Road 16 and Kitley Line 8.

Location: County Road 7 - Approximately 7.5 km between County Road 16 and Kitley Line 8.

Details: The scope of work will include but not be limited to, single lane closures, replacement of cross culverts and entranceway culverts, guiderail upgrades, ditch cleanout, pulverizing the existing asphalt and paving two lifts of new hot mix asphalt. Driveway access may be limited during the work; however, all access will be restored at the end of each working day.

Update - County Road 44 Road Closure New End Date - November 22, 2024

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville have contracted Willis Kerr Contracting Ltd. for the replacement of the Glen Smail box culvert on County Road 44.

This important infrastructure work began at the end of September and was originally scheduled to take about eight weeks. While we initially hoped to speed things up, we encountered some unexpected challenges during construction, which caused a delay.

This is not a small culvert; it’s a substantial structure with openings measuring 8.4 meters by 2.1 meters, and we have used over 400 tonnes of concrete so far. Our crews are working hard, and we’re pleased to report that the project is now progressing as planned.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to make County Road 44 safer and more resilient. The current timeline has the road reopening on November 22.

Lane Width Restriction & Detour Advisory

Location: Lyndhurst Bridge (County Road 33)

Dates: Wednesday, August 27, 2025, to September 28, 2025 (4 weeks), excluding September 20.

Please be advised that due to construction work, lane width restrictions will be in effect on the Lyndhurst Bridge (County Road 33) from August 27, 2025 to September 24, 2025. The travel lane on the bridge will be reduced to 3.2m wide to accommodate construction.

Oversized commercial and agricultural vehicles (greater than 3.2m) will not be able to pass over the bridge through the work zone and are advised to use the posted detour. Traffic will be redirected to use Jonas Street, Red Horse Lake Road and County Road 3.

Motorists are urged to use caution, follow posted signage, and allow extra travel time. Patience and cooperation are appreciated as we work to improve our infrastructure.

County Road 22 - Temporary Road Closure - May 26-30, 2025

As a part of the ongoing rehabilitation of County Road 22 (South of Heckston) between County Road 20 (Norton Road/Dillabaugh Road) and Latimer Road, a temporary road closure is required and will be implemented to accommodate several cross-culvert replacements.

The temporary road closure will be in place from May 26^th until May 30^th, 2025.

A detour route will be in place directing traffic around the work zone via County Road 20 (Dillabaugh Road), Mountain Top Boundary Road, and Latimer Road and will be marked with detour signage.

Half Load Restrictions on Leeds Grenville County Roads

County Road 7 Road Closure - September 29 - October 24, 2025

As part of the ongoing multi-phase road rehabilitation of County Road 7, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville and Willis Kerr Contracting Ltd. will be replacing “Added Culvert”, a concrete rigid frame culvert located approximately 0.15 km north of Atkins Lake Road (44°45'11.35"N, 75°51'52.25"W).

The scope of work will include, but not be limited to a full road closure and detour, the replacement of the existing box culvert with a new pre-cast concrete culvert complete with wingwall, guiderail installation, and the reinstatement of the local roadway.

The road closure will take place for up to four (4) weeks, tentatively scheduled to commence on September 29, 2025 and will continue up to October 24, 2025. During this time, County Road 7 will have a full road closure at the location of “Added Culvert” with no through access.

County Road 42 Temporary Road Closure - August 12-16, 2024

As a part of the ongoing rehabilitation of County Road 42 between Highway 15 in Crosby and Newboro, a temporary road closure is required and will be implemented to accommodate several cross-culvert replacements.

The temporary road closure will be in effect for a period of two (2) weeks beginning on August 12, 2024 until August 16, 2024.

Barring unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the United Counites of Leeds and Grenville, the road is to be reopened for the weekend.

A detour route (attached file below) will be in-place directing traffic to County Road 14 (Narrows Lock Road) and McCann Road.

The County Road 43 four-lane widening project to improve road safety, active transportation and spark regional economic growth is moving forward this year. The first phase, beginning this year, will be a new four-lane bridge. Roundabout installations, surface and pedestrian walkway work begins in 2023. It is one of the most significant projects being undertaken by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. Next Phase of Westport Storm Sewer Outfall Project to Commence on April 28, 2025

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville would like to inform the public that the next phase of the Westport Storm Sewer Outfall Project (PW-2024-23) will commence on April 28, 2025, and is expected to be completed before the end of May 2025.

This important infrastructure project, being undertaken by Campbell’s Trucking LTD., will involve work behind properties, sewer and water installations on the road, and paving operations.

Key Information for the Public

During the roadwork phase, construction will take place on County Road 10/Main Street in Westport, specifically along the section between Spring Street and Bedford Street.

• Lane Closures: There will be single-lane closures to ensure the safety of workers and the public. Traffic controllers will be on-site to manage traffic flow and minimize disruptions.

• Timeline: The project is expected to be completed by the end of May, weather and site conditions permitting.

We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to complete this essential project. Please drive carefully in the construction area and follow the directions of traffic controllers.

Seasonal Load Restrictions

During the spring thaw period, some roads within the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville cannot withstand heavy loads. The Counties load restriction is to reduce the allowable individual axle load from 10 tonnes to 5 tonnes. Load restrictions begin this year on March 1st, 2018 and will be lifted when the likelihood of road damage has diminished which is typically at the end of April or early May.

County Roads Half-Load Restrictions Come Into Effect March 2, 2026

Half-load season in our region will come into effect on Monday March 2, 2026.

To protect the integrity and sustainability of the municipal road network, UCLG and its ten member municipalities will be limiting the weight of materials to five tonnes per axel on the weaker roads in our area. All roads subject to seasonal weight restrictions will be identified with a sign. Seasonal load restrictions will remain in effect on the identified roads until further notice (typically, mid-May).

The current road closure of County Road 44 from Glen Smail Road to Byers Road will be extended until November 29, 2024, due to weather conditions that have delayed the completion of the Glen Smail Culvert. County Road 44 will remain closed to thru-traffic from Glen Smail Road to Byers Road. The detour route will remain unchanged and will be maintained for the duration of the road closure.

Half-Load Restrictions Lifted

Half-load restrictions will be lifted on all municipal roads in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville on Friday May 1, 2026.

These restrictions are implemented each year to preserve and protect our roads from freeze-thaw cycles during late winter and into spring. Restrictions are being lifted as there is no longer a risk of low temperatures.

Temporary Road Closure for Culvert Replacement

Location: County Road 3 (0.35 km south of County Road 33)

Start Date: Monday November 3, 2025

End Date: Friday November 7, 2025

County Road 3 will be temporarily closed between County Road 33 and Red Horse Lake Road with no through access to replace a cross culvert beginning on Monday, November 3, 2025 to Friday, November 7, 2025. Construction is weather dependent.

A planned detour route will be in place directing affected traffic along Red Horse Lake Road, Jonas Street, and County Road 33.

Motorists are advised to expected delays, follow the posted detour, and use caution through the area.
