Maple View Lodge Auxiliary

Brief History

On February 20, 1975 a meeting was called by Mrs. Iris Hurley, Administrator of Maple View Lodge, with the idea of forming an Auxiliary to provide the extras to residents that staff could not provide such as crafts, library, entertainment etc.

Today the mission of the Auxiliary is to provide activities and purchase items that prove beneficial to the life of residents at Maple View Lodge.

Activities of the Auxiliary

The Auxiliary members help with and provide prizes for the weekly bingo games, assist with resident outings and resident visits as well as have purchased many items needed by the Activities Department, welcome baskets for new residents, provides plants and flowers for outside and inside beautification, Christmas gifts for residents, fish aquarium and up keep, large print magazines, music videos, large screen tv and video/dvd players, bread maker, etc. A library cart travels the halls on Saturday and Sundays for residents reading pleasure. A resident knitting club hosted on Saturday mornings is led by members of the Auxiliary , residents have knitted scarves, mitts, toques, afghans and dish cloths for the Christmas Bazaar, as well contributed lap rugs and dish clothes for Boxes for Seniors.

Auxiliary members decorate Maple View Lodge in early December for Christmas and puts them away in early January.

Christmas Tea and BazaarMaple View Lodge Christmas Tea and Bizaar

The annual Christmas Tea and Bazaar sale every November features the Auxiliary's famous Christmas cake, crafts made by residents and members, bake table, nearly new table, tea room and raffles. Monies made from this sale, make it possible for the Auxiliary to provide the extras needed for the benefit of the residents. All monies raised by the Auxiliary is used to assist with meeting the needs of the residents and improving their quality of life. Membership in Auxiliary has varied in number over the past 40 years, but without the dedication of our volunteers the lives of the residents would not be enriched.

The Restorative Garden and Gazebo Area

In 2015 the Maple View Lodge Auxiliary celebrated their 40th Anniversary and the grand opening of the Gazebo and Restorative Garden area. Trees and plants have been planted, benches for sitting have been added and garden art adorns the fence walls. A play structure donated by the United Counties of Leeds Grenville is there for little people to enjoy. Through many years of fund raising, the Gazebo 18 x 18 ft., with windows opening from the top or bottom, walker and wheel chair accessible will provide residents and their families a safe place to visit, to enjoy a family outing as well as activities organized by the staff of Maple View Lodge.
