Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB)

Upper Canada DSB Logo.jpgUpper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) is one of the largest public school boards geographically in Ontario covering 12,000 square kilometres (or about 18 times the size of the Toronto District School Board). Upper Canada's area includes the counties of Lanark, Leeds, Grenville, Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott and Russell. Approximately 5,000 people work for the Upper Canada board. Throughout Leeds Grenville, Upper Canada District School Board employs over 1,380 people in its schools, education centres and at its central administration offices. Among some of its services are full-day, every day kindergarten and board-wide French immersion programming. It is only the second school board in Canada to earn the National Quality Institute's Level 2 Healthy Workplace Award for its health and wellness programs. Upper Canada launched its Champion for Kids Foundation in 2008 to help children in need. The foundation raises money to help students enroll in extra-curricular activities and sports. It also provides support for special medical needs. The board office is located at 225 Central Ave. Brockville, Ontario.

Brockville General Hospital (BGH)

Brockville General Hospital LogoBrockville General Hospital has been serving the residents of Leeds Grenville since 1885. In its 130-year history, the hospital has consistently adjusted to meet the needs of a growing and thriving community. The BGH Charles Street Site offers full acute care services, including emergency and intensive care, medical, surgical and obstetrical care. Various ambulatory services are also available, along with day surgery, ECG, stress testing, radiology, ultrasound and an Ontario Breast Screening Clinic. The BGH Garden Street Site specializes in complex and palliative care and rehabilitation. In addition to these, BGH sponsors the Assault Response and Care Centre. The Mental Health Crisis Team of the Royal Ottawa Hospital has offices at BGH and provides support to both the emergency department and inpatient services. BGH is one of Leeds Grenville's top employers providing 857 jobs in the community. It relies on the additional support of 126 physicians and more than 300 volunteers. The Brockville and District Hospital Foundation raises funds to provide ongoing special services.

Procter and Gamble Company (P&G)

P & G logoProcter and Gamble Inc. of Brockville is one of several household care product major manufacturing operations producing Swiffer, Bounce, Tide and Tide To Go Pens for the global market. P&G is the leading consumer products company in Canada with over $3 billion in annual sales. Its manufacturing facility in Brockville opened in 1980 and began producing Tide laundry products and Bounce. The local plant has expanded into other products over the past 30-plus years, including Swiffer and Swiffer Duster along with Tide To Go Pens to name just a few. There are 480 people employed at the Brockville site located on California Avenue.

United Counties of Leeds and Grenville

Leeds Grenville logoThe United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, in partnership with its municipalities and townships, provide a wide variety of services to the public. These services include county roads maintenance, Emergency Medical Services, Integrated Program Delivery, Ontario Early Years Centres and community housing, to name a few. The main administrative office is located on 25 Central Avenue in Brockville. There are a total of 35 workplace locations spread across Leeds Grenville, including the Economic Development Office on Wall Street in downtown Brockville. Two major attractions are the Limerick Forest, Leeds and Grenville's community forest, and the Sand Bay County Park with its nature trails at Charleston Lake. The United Counties employ 425 people.


The 32 Wall Street location in downtown Brockville houses the Economic Development Department, Provincial Offences Act Court Services and probation services.

Cardinal Health (formerly Medtronic)

Cardinal HealthProducts made by Medtronic range from recording charts for medical and industrial instrumentation to thermal sensitive papers for thermal printers and electrocardiograph electrodes and medical disposables. They also produce blankbooks, surgical and medical instruments and apparatus, professional equipment and supplies. Medtronic has annual sales of between $20 to $50 million. Located in the Town of Gananoque, Medtronic employs approximately 450 people from the region.

Shorelines Casino 1000 Islands

Shorelines Casino 1000 Islands logoShorelines Casino has a sleek and dramatic look stemming from its classic boat and vintage car theme. It's open 24 hours a day. The casino is located on the border of Gananoque in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands. There are over 500 slot machines with favourites such as Wheel of Fortune and monopoly, numerous gaming tables offering Texas Hold-em, Blackjack and Let it Ride and roulette. Other features of this multi-million dollar facility include ship sails hanging from the ceiling, a glass wall and two murals of the Thousand Islands in the facility's restaurant. There are numerous group and hotel packages available. The casino employs approximately 420 people.

3M Canada Company

3M Canada Logo3M Canada Company has a large presence in Brockville, with two facilities dominating the landscape in the John Broome Industrial Park. The company originally purchased a 132,500-square-foot building on 11 acres. It then established a new pressure-sensitive tape plant in 1994. In 1998, 3M expanded and built a second operation in Brockville, the Occupational Health and Environmental Safety Facility. The local sites produce a variety of products that are recognized around the world. About 350 people work at the two sites located on California Avenue.

Burnbrae Farms Limited

Burnbrae Farms logoThis powerhouse egg company began modestly in 1893 when Scottish immigrant Joseph Hudson started with a small farm operation. More than a century later, Burnbrae Farms has proven itself as a leader in through its award-winning new product innovation. For five years in a row it has been nominated for a Canadian Grand Prix New Product Award. This is a prestigious honour granted by the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors and Canadian Grocer Magazine. Presently, Burnbrae Farms is a thriving participant in Canadian agribusiness, selling eggs and egg products to many of the major grocery chains, food service operations and large bakery customers throughout Canada and the United States. It continues to be privately owned and operated by the Hudson family and employs 325 full-time and 50 part-time staff. It has locations in both the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley and the City of Brockville.

Trillium Health Care Products Inc.

Trillium Health Care Products LogoTrillium Health Care Products was launched in 1998 with the purchase of the former Warner-Lambert manufacturing facility on Parkedale Avenue. The 205,000-square-foot facility is situated on a 20-acre parcel of land. Trillium is registered with Health Canada and the FDA for manufacturing and packaging of drugs in North America. The Brockville facility has been supplying drug products to the North American market for over 50 years. The experienced staff of 300 includes a strong technical services team. It has a complete in-house quality group and supply chain management team to meet the full spectrum of customer needs. Trillium Health Care Products is a full service contract manufacturer of over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceuticals, prescription drugs and personal care products.

Walmart LogoThis large supercentre at 1942 Parkedale Avenue includes a pharmacy, auto centre, photo centre, grocery, and Tim Horton's. Wal-Mart Supercentre Brockville, part of a north-end power centre, employs approximately 290 people in both full- and part-time positions.

St. Lawrence Lodge

St. Lawrence Lodge welcome signSt. Lawrence Lodge is operated in partnership with the City of Brockville, the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, the Town of Prescott, the Town of Gananoque and in conjunction with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. St. Lawrence Lodge is a new, modern, 224-bed municipally-owned, long-term care home located on the south-eastern edge of Brockville in the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley. The Lodge was first established in 1976 with the original building opening its doors in 1970. The lodge is regulated by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Currently the Lodge employs 280 people.

The corn products facility overlooking the St. Lawrence River in the village of Cardinal operates using a regional approach, relying on the expertise of local sales, marketing, product development, and engineering professionals. Ingredion is home to approximately 250 employees at its Cardinal site. The company was first founded in 1858.

The company offers a variety of cables and systems for the commercial and industrial and utility sectors. Prysmian North America is a leading supplier of energy transmission and distribution cable. Approximately 200 people are employed at the local facility near Johnstown.

Northern Cables Inc.

Northern Cables logoThe "Armoured Cable Specialists." Northern Cables is a world-class manufacturer of commercial and industrial power cables. They operate three manufacturing facilities and six distribution centres to service customers throughout North American. Raw materials used in the manufacture of their cables are sourced in North America and finished goods qualify for NAFTA designation. For security, facilities are Customs - Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) approved by the Canadian Border Services and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Northern Cables produces copper and aluminum cables to CSA and UL Standards for the North American market. The company markets its products and services exclusively through Wholesale Wire and Electrical Distribution.

Canarm Ltd.

Canarm logoCanarm Ltd. is a global marketer and manufacturer of lighting, air moving and related products. In recent months, the Brockville-based company added 100 new employees to bring the local staffing level up to 151. Plant expansion is occurring this year after Canarm purchased Delhi Blowers earlier this year. The company has five satellite manufacturing plants in Ontario, one in Illinois and a distribution centre in Montreal. Canarm also has 14 manufacturing sites and a showroom in China. Canarm Ltd. was created in 1980 by a merger of Danor and Canadian Armature Works. CEO David Beatty and President James Cooper say it is also part of the company's philosophy to give back to the communities in which their facilities are located, supporting sport for children and other charitable causes.
