Summary: The Northumberland CFDC is pleased to provide support for Eastern Ontario Youth STEM and Technical Skilled Trades Job Creation Pilot Program with an investment of $488,000 under the Eastern Ontario Development Program’s Collaborative Economic Development Projects stream with a total project cost of up to $1.4 million. The funding will invest in the next generation of young STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and technical skilled trades graduates in rural Eastern Ontario’s advanced manufacturing sector, resulting in 23 new full time positions which will benefit Eastern Ontario. Qualifying rural Eastern Ontario manufacturers can be eligible for up to $20K to create funded positions for recent graduates of Canadian post-secondary educational Institutions, with particular emphasis on attracting female STEM and technical skilled trades graduates.

The goal of these accounts is to provide timely and on the fly information about wait times, mooring availability, and other event/community based info from our 42 locks and 12 swing bridges on the Trent-Severn Waterway, and 29 lockstations and 14 swing bridges on the Rideau Canal. This information will be useful for our boaters, marinas, and other external partners. Accounts will be monitored and maintained during hours of operation (see website for hours).

Scheduled to open on Ontario’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rideau Canal in 2018, the European boating company is also moving its North American headquarters from Clearwater, Florida, to the picturesque province. The $16 million investment in the "Heart of the Rideau Canal" is expected to attract thousands of vacationers of all ages from the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, and many other locations around the world. It will open with a fleet of 16 state-of-the-art Horizon cruisers offering a high level of comfort with large forward staterooms, roomy top-deck areas and, diverse amenities. According to Le Boat’s projections for the next five years, the company will expand this fleet to at least 32 cruises by the end of 2023.
